The URL address of this Single Serving website poses one of the pressing questions of our time: Have we defeated tech fascism? The answer is placed on a pasture for donkeys in the picturesque Donišnica valley: A sculpture built from tree trunks roughly joined together to spell the German word NEIN - no. The answer is placed within a part of the landscape that formed part of fascist Italy's urban colonialization of Istria in the 1930ies. Both the landscape itself and nearby town Raša were shaped by mining projects during the time of the Italian Fascists. Within this historic landscape the rough physicality of the sculpture traces how fascism has been simmering under the surface, finding new promoters in the technologies that rule our contemporary and which determine access to data-driven systems and social inclusion. The current "NEIN" implies the possibility of a "JA" in the future - a hope emphasized by the specificity of the Istrian context.

Built for the 5th Industrial Art Biennial
